Out Reach Program by Dept. of Biochemistry

An outreach programme was organized for school children by the Department of Biochemistry,on 18th July 2012 .This programme was conducted to motivate students towards science, and inculcate scientific aptitude in young minds.

 

As a part of this programme, 71 high school students of St. Thomas SPG high school were invited. The programme was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr.Y.Ashok. Dr. P. Uma, Vice principal and Head, Dept. of Biochemistry gave the overview of the programme. Mrs.D.Rajani, lecturer from the department delivered a lecture on “Blood and its clinical importance”. Later in the practical session experiments based on the school curriculum like Blood grouping, Types of blood cells, Thin layer chromatography were demonstrated to students.

 

Students were very enthusiastic and actively involved during the practical session.  By the end of the programme, the students were excited and satisfied .The teachers from the school who accompanied the students, Mrs. Rachel  Dayanand and  Mrs. Vijayalakshmi had expressed gratitude and appreciated the college for organizing the programme. They expressed their willingness to attend many more such programmes in future.
