Department of Chemistry

Inception and Growth

The Department was set up when the college was established, with a strength of 40 students. Courses offered were B.Sc, MPC (Maths, Physics, Chemistry) and B.Sc MBC Microbiology, Botany, Chemistry), subsequently four courses were added MGC (Microbiology, Genetics, Chemistry), MBiC (Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry), BtBiC (Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry) and BtGC (Biotechnology, Genetics, Chemistry). By 2006, there were seven faculty members and five courses and about 400 students. At present there are three courses and about 150 students.

Facilities

We have two spacious laboratories and one balance room. The laboratories are well equipped enabling the faculty to conduct all the experiments in the syllabus meticulously.

 

 
  • Student Results

    The average pass percentage for students each year is about 88%, which is much above the Osmania University average. Many of our students have scored 100% marks in all the papers in the University Examinations.

    Student Achievements

     

    Vijayasri secured 100% marks in chemistry final examination(2012).

    Two students Muthuselvi and Upasana Prasad secured 100% marks in their Chemistry final examinations conducted by the Osmania University(2011).

    Students of BSc III yr (life sciences) won the overall trophy in the Chemistry fest organized by St Francis College for Women, Begumpet.

    Sujata Srinivas won the first prize for the essay and presentation on ‘Green Chemistry’ organized by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London, Deccan Chapter. She was the only undergraduate student selected for the final round out of hundreds of competitors.
