The Department of Commerce started in the academic year 1993-94 with two faculty members and one section of B.Com (regular) course with 43 students. Since then, the department has grown steadily, in terms of faculty, number of courses offered, student strength, Infrastructure and other facilities provided.

In the year 1997-1998 O.U. sanctioned first sectin of B.Com Computers to the department. Due to increased demand for commerce education and popularity of the College, second section of B.Com Regulars was started during the academic year 1998-1999. In 2000-2001, B.Com Honors was introduced and third sections of B.Com regulars was started. An additional section of B.Com Honors and CA foundation course was sanctioned by ICAI in 2001-2002. In 2007-08 second section of B.Com computers was started.

 
Presently the department is one of the largest departments in the institution with 7 sections each for First, second and Final year, comprising of 1285 students, including 73 foreign students and 26 staff members. The department has been making concerted efforts to give the best to the students so that they may face greater challenges in life.
