French National Day
The II year students of French celebrated the French National Day in our college
on 14th July with presentations on various topics. This day, also called
Bastille Day, marks the capture of the Bastille in 1789 during the French
revolution. Since then, 14th July is celebrated as “La Fete Nationale”.
After a brief welcome note by Mrs. Sandra Rasquinha (Lecturer in French) the
first presentation was made by Hiranmayi (M.SCs II year). She spoke about the
different regions and monuments of France like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre. She
also gave a brief insight into the popular sports of France --- football and the
famous bicycling rally, Tour de France.
A presentation on ‘French Education’ by Meghna Murali (MPCS II year) followed.
She spoke about the important prerequisites to pursue higher education in Franc,
especially the knowledge of French. Currently Biotechnology and Life Sciences
are the emerging areas of study.

the “the Fashion Capital of the World”—Paris – Cardin, Dior, Chanel, Yves Saint
Laurent charmed the audience.
Archana of B.Com II year presented a pictorial and stylistic report on the
famous painters and sculptors of France. Vishnupriya’s (MGC II year)
presentation on ‘French Cheeses and Wines’ with photographs of the different
varieties of cheeses was well received. She also gave interesting tips on wines
and their recognition.
The last presentation by Seva Bhattacharya of BtBiC II year on ‘French Writers
who influenced the world’ was interesting. She spoke about Victor Hugo,
Alexandre Dumas, Guy de Maupassant and many others, especially writers of the
French Revolution.
A lively quiz involving the audience and based on the presentations followed.
