THE READERS CLUB

The Reader’s Club in our college is not only for those who love reading books but also for those who love a good story. The aim of this club is -----

(a) To share our enthusiasm for literature with others, and

(b) To motivate as many people as possible to start reading books,

Because it is said ---

LITERATURE BUILDS CHARACTER

We have meetings once a week, when we get together under the shade of a tree, generally during the peaceful afternoons.

At the first four meetings, we narrated stories to each other randomly. In this time, we read a translated version of a Tamil story called “FIFTEEN” by AMBAI, 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA(sci-fi), JONATHAN LIVINGSTON SEAGULL by RICHARD BACH, THE STATIONARY ARK BY GERALD DURELL. We also had a presentation on a self-improvement book. Then, all the members decided that we should choose an author per month and narrate or read out his or her works.

Therefore, for the past two weeks we have been reading works of “Saki”, the humorous short story writer. So far, we have read out “LAURA” & “THE COBWEB”. We have also narrated “SHE-WOLF” and “MRS. PACKELTIDE’S TIGER”.

We hope to move to poetry, the classics and even comics, in due course of time. At the end of the academic session, we have planned to enlist some of our favourite characters ( in the stories we’ve read so far) into a gripping story of our own.
