In view of the increase in pollution from chemical industries, development of environment friendly production methods are the need of the hour. Green Chemistry is a way of developing such methods.
The Department of Chemistry Bhavan’s Vivekanada College, Sainikpuri conducted a one-day workshop on Green Chemistry for college lecturers.  The workshop was inaugurated by Prof S Sondu, Head, Department of Chemistry, Osmania University. The morning session had two lectures, one by Dr Apurba Bhattacharya, Associate Professor, Texas A & M Kingsville, USA and the other by Prof PSN Reddy, Dean, RGUKT, IIIT, Hyderbad.  The speakers highlighted the importance of Green Chemistry and pointed out that this is the way forward if we are to have sustainable industries and a sustainable world.
There was a laboratory session in the afternoon. The participants shared their experiences and exchanged ideas on how to make the experiments prescribed for the undergraduate classes, safer and less polluting.
