As a grand finale to a host of competitive activities, ranging from Essay Writing, Group Discussion, French Quiz, to the General Quiz-Kaun Banega Bhashapati, Bhavan’s Vivekananda College, Sainikpuri, celebrated its Languages’ Day in great style.
Under the auspices of the Department of Languages headed by Mrs.Ujjwala Desai, the event was staged with all the traditional trappings of India’s rich cultural legacy.
The opening address by the Principal, Dr. Y. Ashok, reflected the esteem accorded to the study of Languages. He appealed to all the students to strengthen their basics through the medium of Languages.
Dr. P. Uma, Vice-Principal, in chaste Telugu, very eloquently highlighted the fact that as a tool for communicating, Language has no equal and that in the past, India had given Languages a place of honour.
The Chief Guest, Dr. T. VIJAY KUMAR, PROFESSOR OF ENGLISH, OSMANIA UNIVERSITY, was impressed and appreciative of the fact that the College was regularly conducting a Languages’ Day Celebration. He stated that contrary to the popular belief Languages are marketable and saleable. He stressed that the malaise of the present generation was their inability to communicate effectively. Language was the most intimate of tools and a repository of culture. He held sway over the audience, with his practical statements and pithy comments.
The lively interactive session that followed, had students asking several pertinent questions, and sharing snippets of information.
But the most eagerly awaiting part of the programme was the distribution of Prizes and Certificates of Appreciation, which made the students’ day. In the final analysis, it is the tool of Language that brings joy to so many. |
