UGC- Major Research Projects
Department of Microbiology is sanctioned with two U.G.C major research project entitled in the Studies on cold active pectinases from diverse sources and Screening and evaluation of Phytochemicals for quorum quenching activity against pathogenic bacteria .
Conferences
The faculty of Microbiology has participated and presented 3 research papers in at International conference.
Science Club
The Department held meetings of the Science Club every Wednesday morning. The activities encouraged by the club during the academic year 2012-13 were:
“October is for Oncology” Event: Throughout the month we discussed various factors related to cancer. The finale event was presentations by several students on different topics about recent advances in our understanding of cancer.
“November is for Nutrition” Event: Throughout the month we discussed various factors related to diet and nutrition. The finale event was presentations by several students on different topics about diet as a companion program for the “Master Chef” competition to provide awareness about “Nutritional Facts” during the Yuvamahotsav Celebrations in December 2012.
“December is for Discoveries” Event: The year 2012 marked the 50th year of award of Nobel Prize to Watson, Crick, and Wilkins for solving the structure of DNA. The students worked on preparing 3-D models of DNA, including a 7-feet model of metal and plywood. The students displayed these models during the Bhavanostav Celebrations in January 2013. Seeing the student interest in this topic, staff members conducted a “DNA Puzzle” quiz event at that time.
In addition, students paid tributes to the Noble Prize winners of 2013 by reading our their contributions during the assembly, and by posting descriptions of their work on the Notice Board.
