Madhava Mathematics Competition On 8th of Jan 2012, the Madhava Mathematics Competition was conducted in our college. This competition is a 3 hour written exam in Mathematics. It is conducted by the Department of Mathematics, S.P. College, Pune and Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR, Mumbai. This exam is conducted for undergraduate students in Mathematics to motivate them to pursue higher studies in Mathematics. Students, who do well in the exam, will be sent for a summer camp for Mathematics to some University. Students will also be given many cash awards. In Hyderabad it was conducted at 3 centres. 1. St.Francis College, Begumpet 2. St.Ann's college, Mehdipatnam 3. Bhavan's Vivekananda College for Science, Humanities and Commerce, Sainikpuri.
PSCIFE CLUB :The Physical Science Faculty have started a club last academic year by the name PSCIFE (Physical Science Club for Information, Fun and Education). There was a competition for the physical science students to suggest a name for the same. Under the voting system, this acronym was selected as suggested by Ms. S K Fatema of B.Sc. (MSCs) III year, 2008-’11. The purpose of having this club is: 1. To have better inter- departmental interaction for both students and staff 2. To conduct activities like paper presentation, poster presentation, quiz, fun games, brain quest, etc. 3. To encourage their analytical skills and to stimulate their thinking and develop confidence. 4. To make the students more creative 5. To try and remove the inhibition that some of the students may have. Mrs.Leela Santi and Mrs.P Rajini are the coordinating members of the club. The Quiz - Asymptote :The Mathematics Quiz, ASYMPTOTE is being conducted regularly since 2004 which is held every year to commemorate the great Mathematician, Ramanujan's birthday. Prizes are given to first three teams. For the first two years, it was conducted as an intra college competition for the physical science streams. Because of its popularity, it is now conducted as an inter-college competition, regularly, every year.
Mr. Aditya K of MSCs III year, conducting the quiz, ASYMPTOTE 2010, on the stage, during Bhavanotsav 2010 BHAVANOTSAV 2011 :A good number of students of the department of Mathematics and Statistics were core volunteers for the entire event, whereas many others were assigned the duty of liasoning with other colleges for inviting the students for the D-day whereas yet another group of students coordinated with the industry/organization for sponsorship.
