The most awaited inter-collegiate fest “Bhavanotsav” of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan’s Vivekananda College of Science, Humanities & Commerce, Sainikpuri, Secunderabad. was celebrated with its trademark fanfare. As per the tradition of the college the fest was the right mix of traditions and contemporary. Air Cmde. NDN BHASKAR RAO ,VSM, Honorary secretary and treasurer, BVC, Sainikpuri Kendra Honorary Director and Correspondent ,BVC, presided over the inaugural ceremony. Principal, Dr .Y ASHOK shared the history of BHAVANOTSAV with the gathering. The Vice Principal Dr. P UMA and the event coordinator Mrs.NIRAIMATHI and Mrs. LALITHA NARAYANAN joined Director and Principal in lightining the lamp to declare the fest open.
Each department vied with each other in making the fest more interesting . The Dept. of Languages organized Bhasha Tarang comprising debate, extempore and essay writing in English, Hindi and Telugu and Kalasangam comprising tattoo designing ,rangoli, duet singing ,group dance ,treasure hunt and battle of bands .The debate was especially invigorating , the topic being “Are celebrations taking over the spirituality of festivals ?”
Dept. of Physical Sciences hosted competition in poster presentation, brain storm ,Mathematical crossword , online exam, computer games. Dept. of Life Sciences, crusader of greENERGY, conducted poster and micro presentation competitions. Dept. of Commerce (DISHA) staged competitions in Micro Presentation, Case Study, Ad-Venture, Rack your Brain, Tol-Mol ke Bol.
97 colleges participated in the fest and it is pertinent to mention that the dances were a good mix of folk and contemporary and the songs for the singing competitions were from the 60’s & 70’s. Beat boxing made its presence felt. Bhavanites took this opportunity to pay a tribute to Michael Jackson.
The one new event which caught the fancy of all bikers was the slow biking, by which the Bhavanites wanted to convey the message of safe driving.
The star-studded affair scaled new heights when the true “Stars of Hyderabad”, singer Sri Ram Chandra, ex-Bhavanite, winner of Indian Idol-5 and Mr. Mast Ali aka Saleem Pheku graced the event with their presence and set the stage on fire. One could not have asked for more.
The Battle of Bands was a fitting finale to a great day. The DJ’s music with the setting sun brought everyone to their feet.
All good things come to an end and so did “Bhavanotsav-2011-12”.
