Workshop on Use of Laboratory Animals in Medical Research (2011-12) :

A two day workshop on the use of laboratory animals was conducted on 4th and 5th of April; 2012. Post graduate Students of Microbiology and Biochemistry participated in it. The aim of the workshop was to introduce the different techniques and usage of laboratory animal models in Biomedical research.

First day 4th April , 2012 the workshop included lectures from eminent scientists from National Institute of Nutrition .The session had begun with the keynote address by Dr.N.V.Giridharan on “Use of laboratory animals and models for biomedical research”. Dr.P. Suresh presented a lecture , focusing on the “Rules and Regulations, injections and blood withdrawals from different routes”. Followed by it Dr.N.Harishankar, addressed on “Non-invasive techniques in laboratory animals”.

On second day 5th April , 2012 the students were demonstrated practically the handling of laboratory animals and the various inoculation techniques at the National Centre for laboratory Animal Sciences (NCLAS,NIN). Different routes of blood withdrawals in rabbit, rat and mouse models were demonstrated. Inoculation methods by intradermal, subcutaneous and intravenous in different animals were also demonstrated. Application of non invasive techniques in measuring blood pressure, body mass index, Basal metabolic rate, behavioural patterns etc. in lab animals like guinea pig, rat, mouse etc were explained.

Industrial Visit to the National Small Scale Industries Corporation (2010-11):

The students of M.Sc Biochemistry I and II year attended a  one day workshop on entrepreneurship on 9th February, 2011 held at the National Small Scale Industries Corporation (NSIC).

M.Sc (BIOCHEMISTRY) STUDENTS VISIT TO INDIAN IMMUNOLOGICALS (2009-10) :

Health Awareness Programme (2011-12) :

The department of Biochemistry has organized a Health Awareness Programme from 5th to 10th  December, 2011 for the staff of Bhavan’s Kendra, Sainikpuri.  This was in collaboration with Bhavan’s Sarada Devi Hospital.  On 6th December, 2011 the department has organized a talk by Dr.S.Padma and Mrs. D.Rajani on “Biochemistry of Diabetes and Cardiac diseases” for the staff of BVC.

The health camp received a good response with the participation of nearly 200 staff members , who got their blood samples analyzed for glucose, serum creatinine and  lipid profile.

Workshop on "Immunological and Biochemical techiniques"(2010-11):

A workshop on "Immunological and Biochemical techiniques" was conducted in collaboration with NIN, Hyderabad and Dept. of Biochemistry, O.U, Hyderabad on 8th & 9th October 2010. On the first day a lecture on The basics of Tissue culture, viability of cells andapplications in tissue culture” was delivered by Dr.V.Vijayalakshmi, Dy. Director, NIN, Hyderabad. Then a demonstration of MTT assay was done. On the second day a lecture on   “Immune response to Immunotechnology”was delivered by Dr. B.Sashidhar Rao, Professor & Head, Department of Biochemistry, Osmania University, Hyderabad. Later demonstration of antibody capture assay by ELISA and Aflatoxin analysis by Thin Layer Chromatography was done.
