Activities for academic Year 2011-12:
Workshop:
A workshop on "Green Chemistry" was organized in December 2011. Lecturers from different colleges participated in this. Dr. Apurba Bhattacharya from the University of Texas, A & M, Kingsville and Prof PSN Reddy former Head, Chemistry Department OU, gave very interesting talks. Prof. Sondu, Head, Chemistry Department OU was the chief guest.
Dr. Latha Surendra addressed the staff of Bhavan's on Plagiarism in March 2012.

Since the year 2011 has been declared the Year of Chemistry (IYC), a series of programs were arranged. On the 10th of August, a poster presentation was conducted. Students put up posters on "Chemistry in daily life". In September 2011, two students Sujata Srinivas and Bhaskar Kasbekar gave a talk to students and teachers of other departments on "Chemistry in daily life". In November 2011, a talk was given by an alumnus Dr. Naresh, currently a post doctoral researcher at University of California, Berkeley. He told students about opportunities available to them after their B.Sc.
The students of the II year were taken for a visit to the IKP (ICICI Knowledge Park). They saw the facilities available there and visited the Garden of Life where 200 species of medicinal plants are grown.
Since the year 1997, the Department has been putting up a science wall magazine. This magazine is edited by students. This year, in addition to puttting articles of scientific interest, they had conducted a weekly science quiz through this medium.

We organize guest lectures on topics related to the course of study.
Some of these are:
3. In coordination with the other departments of Life Sciences, we organized a Career Counseling
workshop for students of Intermediate to create awareness about the various career options available after a B.Sc degree in life sciences.
4. A talk on HIV and AIDS by Dr Vidya Jonnalagadda
5. In-house presentations titled “ Lab Safety” and “Plagiarism”
6. Student seminars on various topics of scientific interest.
The Chemistry Department has coordinated a value−addition course titled “ Foundation Course for Bioinformatics” organized for Life Sciences students in 2010-2011.
The department has maintained a Science Wall Magazine since 1998 where students put up scientific articles of common interest.
Our students also take part in poster presentations, quiz competitions and seminars regularly.
