Student Achievements for 2011

Two students Muthuselvi and Upasana Prasad secured 100% marks in their Chemistry final examinations conducted by the Osmania University.
- Students of BSc III yr (life sciences) won the overall trophy in the Chemistry fest organized by St Francis College for Women, Begumpet.
- Sujata Srinivas won the first prize for the essay and presentation on ‘Green Chemistry’ organized by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London, Deccan Chapter. She was the only undergraduate student selected for the final round out of hundreds of competitors.
Activities for academic Year 2011-12:
On the 10th
of August, a poster presentation was organised where a few
posters were put up by students about "Chemistry in Daily
life". A popular lecture was organised on the 9th September
2011. The topic was again "Chemistry in Daily Life". The
lecture was given by Sujata Srinivasan and Bhaskar
Kasbekar of BSc (MGC) II year. It was received well by all
the lecturers and students who attended. These were held to
popularise Chemistry in this year, the Year of Chemistry.
A talk by one of our alumni, Dr Naresh, was arranged on the
8th of November 2011. Dr Naresh was a student of our
college.He is at present, a post doctoral research fellow at
the University of California, Berkeley. His talk showed the
students the opportunities available to them if they
developed good work culture and work ethics.
A trip was organised by the Chemistry Department to the IKP
Knowledge Park. The II year BSc life science students went
to visit the IKP Knowledge Park at the Genome Valley in
Turkapally on the 9th November 2011.
Dr Jitendra Prasad explained to the students what the IKP
was all about. He suggested that more students become
entrepreneurs and start their own businesses after they
graduate or after they get some training in business
management.
Ms Deepti took the students around the incubation centre and
explained to them what equipment were available for use in
their wet labs. They also visited the Garden Of Life which
had about 200 species of medicinal plants.
Activities 2010-11:
We organize guest lectures on topics related to the course
of study.

Scientist at CCMB.

In coordination with the other departments of Life Sciences, we organized a Career Counseling
workshop for students of Intermediate to create awareness about the
various career options available
after a B.Sc degree in life
sciences.

A talk on HIV and AIDS by Dr Vidya Jonnalagadda

In-house presentations titled “ Lab Safety” and
“Plagiarism”

Student seminars on various topics of scientific
interest.
The Chemistry Department has coordinated a value−addition
course titled “ Foundation Course for Bioinformatics”
organized for Life Sciences students in 2010-2011.
The department has maintained a Science Wall Magazine since 1998
where students put up scientific articles of common
interest.
Our students also take part in poster presentations, quiz
competitions and seminars regularly.
