Inception and Growth
The department of commerce started in the academic year 1993-94 with two faculty members and one section of B. Com(regular) course with 43 students. Since then, the department has grown steadily, both in terms of number of courses offered and student strength.

Accreditation with ICAI for CA CPT to Facilitate students pursuing a CA course.

At present, the Department has:
  • 3 sections of B.Com (Regular) with a sanctioned intake of 84 students per section.
  • 2 section of B.Com (Computers) with a sanctioned intake of 52 students.
  • 2 sections of B.Com (Honours) with a sanctioned intake of 30 per section.
Today, the commerce Department is one of the largest Departments in the college with 1025 students and 17 staff members.

Objectives

1. Providing quality education with an aim of improving performance consistently, thus achieving top position at the     University level.

2. The Department motivates the students to aim and achieve top position at the University level.

3. The Department is committed not only in imparting academic skills but also grooming the students to meet the industry     needs

4. The Department of commerce regularly conducts various intra and inter collegiate competitions for B.Com students to      showcase their talents and organizing abilities.

5. The Department organizes Industry and field visit for B.com 1 st year . students to provide practical insight on the      functioning of the industry.

6. Students are always encouraged to participate in various inter collegiate competition conducted by other colleges and      have won several laurels.

7. Faculty members strive to maintain higher values and are role models to the students, thus imbibing the values and      principles required for their overall development.

8. The Department encourages faculty members to enhance their academic qualification which equips them to train the      students better.

9. The Department also organized a faculty development program in which lecturers of various commerce colleges actively     participated. The objective of such program is to provide a platform to share exchange rich academic experience in     commerce related areas.

Student Results
The average pass percentage of the students in B.Com is 90% and above, with a 100% result in the years 95-96, 98-99. The average success rate for the CA CPT course is at 24.48%.

The University Gold Medal for securing highest marks in the B.Com(Honours) course was awarded to a student from our college for three consecutive academic years since the inception of Honours course.

Departmental Activities

  • A Merit Scholarship has been instituted by the Sultan Chand & Co with a corpus of Rs.1 lakh from the year 2003-04 for the student securing the highest marks in the B.Com Regular course.
  • A Commerce Club was established in the year 2001-02. This Club conducts various activities regularly aimed at enhancing the overall development of students.
  • A Commerce Lab was established in the November 2004 to provide practical insights to students on various issues relating to trade, commerce, and industry
  • A “ Book Bank Scheme” was initiated in the academic year 2005-06 to provide books to needy students.
  • Students of the Department have won several prizes in various intercollegiate events. We were adjudged as the Best Outgoing College at several intercollegiate events like the Arthasastra.
  • Students of the department have represented India in the following International events:
    • UN Young Global Leaders conference
    • V7 Seven Voices in Time, an International Teen Summit at Los Angeles
    • Know US Challenge Quiz conducted by the American Consulate

    Industrial visit: organized a visit to Khandasari Sugar industry located at Shankarampet for the161 fIrst year students accompanied by 5 faculty members on 2nd December'06. 54 B.Com II year Hons students have visited M/s Kishore Lal & sons Detergents Pvt Ltd, Timmapur Shadnagar accompanied by 4 lecturers. Organized a visit to Adarsh Fan Manufacturers Ltd. Jeedimetla for 120 students of B.Com 1 year in the month of September 2007. 200 students from 1 year have visited Surya Vamshi Spin Mills - Shameerpet in the month of September 2007.

    Commerce Club Activities: various activities like Business Quiz, Situation Analysis, JAM, Micro Presentation, Ad Marksmen etc., were conducted where students participated enthusiastically.

    Intercollegiate Commerce Meet: Organized on the 11th January 07 in the campus where about 20-22 reputed colleges of the twin cities participated. Competitions were held in Business Quiz, Micro presentation, Case Study Analysis, Business Plan, Poster presentation. Prof. M. Sulochana and Prof Akbar Ali Khan were the guests for the Inaugural session. Prof H. Venkateswarlu and Prof Purushottam Rao were the guests for the Valedictory session.

    Our students participated and won several prizes at Intercollegiate commerce meets organized by several Institutions like St Mary's, St Francis, Arthashastra, Loyola Academy, Avanthi Degree College etc.

    One day Inter College Commerce Meet - DISHA 07 organized successfully in December where in 30 colleges of twin cities have participated.

    Inter College Meet - BHAVANOTSAV - DISHA - 08 organized in August 2008

    Prerana: Organized by Dept. of Commerce OU for B.Com Honours I year students. The overall championship at PRERANA was won by BHAVAN's several years.

    360 students from B.Com I year visited Duke's Biscuits Factory at Kattedan, Hyderabad in the month December 2008.


    1) As part of the Industrial visit the students of B.Com-I year where taken to the Bambino Agro Industries Limited,      BibiNagar, between 16-11-2009 to 20-11-2009.
    2) A Guest lecturer was organized in banking on the topic “Banking Operations of ATM’s, E-Banking and Credit Cards” on     2nd December, 2009. The guest speaker was Mr.G.V.Rama Rao, Manger and faculty, Regional Staff Training College,     Canara Bank, Hyderabad. He gave practical exposure of E-Banking by citing On-line examples on the Can bank internet      site.
    3) Under the ages of the Department of Commerce, Osmania University, the Department of Commerce, Bhavans      Vivekananda College has organized a 4-day Workshop about the changes in the curriculum of B.Com, on the following      Topics: Banking and Financial Services, Business Statistics, Accounting and Taxation to the Commerce Faculty from      7- 8-2009 to 10-8-2009.
    4) Commerce Club was named as “VOICE” in the year 2009-10. The Lecturers incharge for the “voice” are: 1)      L.V.KamalaDevi 2) K.VijayaLakshmi 3) J.V.R.Geetanjali.
         The first event conducted was to suggest the name for the Commerce Club, in which, out of 100 names suggested by      students “VOICE” was selected by Commerce Club, Faculty members, HOD and Principal.
         The name of the student who suggested the name “VOICE” was Santosh Abhiraj of B.ComIIIA1, VOICE stands      as:V=Vivekananda, O=Organisation for, I=Innovative and, C=Challenging, E=Entrepreneurs
        The second event was Commerce Wall Journal proposed by Commerce Club Faculty members named as “BEACON”-‘The     inspiring thoughts’ on 13-11-2009.
        The third event was “Mr and Ms VOICE” organized by second and final year Commerce Club Students to first year     students on 21-11-2009.
