Microbiology department was established in 1993 and blossomed into a full fledged Department with a Masters program, M.Sc MicroBiology in the year 2000.
At U.G level the department offers three courses with the combinations: Microbiology-Botany-Chemistry(M.B.C), Microbiology-Genetics-chemistry(M.G.C), and Microbiology-Biochemistry-Chemistry(M.B.C).
Facilities
Microbiology labs are well equipped with basic and sophisticated equipment. The department has highly qualified and experienced faculty who motivate the students and encourage their participation in extra curricular activities.
Student Results
The department has the credit of acquiring first rank in M.Sc, Microbiology course. Students of the Department also have to their credit GATE/CSIR fellowships almost every year since 2002.
The students were pursuing their research work in reputed institutes and organizations like CCMB,CDFD,IICT and NIN .
The students were placed in reputed industries as Microbiologists.
Career Prospects
The department has the credit of acquiring first rank in M.Sc, microbiology course for 2 consecutive years. Students of the Department also have the credit of acquiring GATE/CSIR fellowships almost every year since 2002.
The students are pursuing their research work in reputed institutes like CCMB, CDFD, IICT, NIN and also in University of Hyderabad and Osmania University.
The students are placed in reputed industries as Microbiologists.
The department strives to inculcate a scientific temper among students. For this, the department conducts annual lecture series “Gyan Tarangini Vyakhyan Mala” every year since the inception of P.G. courses. This is to encourage creativity and skills, to enrich their knowledge and to interact with distinguished scientists.
The Department organized intercollegiate Life sciences meet.
The Department organized “teacher workshop on Molecular Techniques” in 2004 to give hands-on experience in molecular biology protocols.
The Department conducts model CSIR test every year.
The Department initiated summer projects from 2005. Summer projects are open for in-house and other college students at U.G, P.G and M.Phil levels.
Faculty is actively involved in research activities for Ph.D programmes.
Scientific paper publications and book publications are a part of departmental activities.
