The Department of Physics and Electronics was established at the inception of the college in 1993 with three U.G courses (M.P.C., M.P.E., & M.P.Cs.,) and with an intake of 65 students and 3 faculty members.  Currently the department has a strength of about 350 students and 7 experienced faculty members.

The Department has well furnished, spacious and equipped laboratories. The laboratories have been relocated to the new I.T.  block on  November 14th ,  2005.  The Department has three Physics laboratories (Mechanics Lab, Optics Lab & Electronics Lab) spanning a total area of  2024 Sqft. and the area of Electronics lab is 1056 Sqft. The electronics lab is also equipped with six Pentium computers for the simulation experiments prescribed by the O.U.

The overall results of the department have been over 95%. Students have been securing 100% marks in various theory papers of Physics and Electronics in the University examinations.

 

  • Satish Srinivasan, student of the first batch (1993 – 96), secured the University Gold Medal in Physics for securing the highest marks in the O.U. examinations.
  • Anand L Narayanan (1997-2000) has done his MBA from IIM Calicut in 2000-02.
  • Mandeep Singh Bansal (2000–03) has done M.Sc (Electronics), M.S (Networking) and is working on Embedded systems for Aviation company in U.S.
  • N. Santoshi (2002-05) is pursuing Ph.D in Physics from University of Arkansas on Condensed Matter under high Pressure.
  • V.V.Ravi kishore (2001-04) is pursuing Ph.D in Physics from University of Antwerp-Belgium  on Electronic and Band properties of  Nano Wires.
  • Karthik Shastry (2001 -04) is pursuing Ph.D in Physics from University of Arlington- Texas, USA on Polymers.

Intercollegiate events organized

  • The Department celebrated World Physics DaySPECTRA on 24-12-2005 to commemorate the 100th Birthday of Nobel Laureate Albert Einstein. Guest lectures were organized and students have presented papers and posters.
  • Every year college organizes Bhavanotsav, an inter-collegiate techno cultural event. As a part of Bhavanotsav-2010, the department organized Poster Presentations in Physics and Electronics and fun games Play with Electronics on 16-12-2010.

Refresher courses / Workshops / Seminars attended by the staff  

·         Mr. G.S.V.R.K. Choudary attended a workshop on Low temperature and high magnetic fields conducted by UGC-DAE consortium for research science at IUC Indore from 14-3-2011 to 18-3-2011.

  • Mrs. B.Niraimathi & Mrs. M.Prasanna attended a 5 day workshop on Embedded system at Physics Dept., Nizam college from 30-8-2010 to 3-9-2010.
  • Mr. T.V.L.N.H.Prasad attended a Faculty Updation Training on Embedded System Programming (Device Drivers) at C-DAC at JNTUH from 18-05-2010 to 28-05-2010.

·         Mr. G.S.V.R.K. Choudary attenteded one day workshop on Nano-materials and devices for energy applications at International Conference on Nano Science and Technology 2010 held on 17-2-2010 at IIT Bombay, Mumbai.

  • Mrs. B. Niraimathi, Mrs. M. Prasanna & Mr. T. Prasad attended National seminar on VLSI design at Loyola Academy, Alwal, on 20-2-09  & 21-2-09.
  • Mrs. M. Prasanna & Mr. T. Prasad attended First Refresher Course in Electronics conducted by Academic Staff College at O.U. Campus, from 26-2-09 to 21-3-09.
  • Mr. A.J.Michael, Lab Assistant, attended a workshop on Repair and maintenance of Electronic equipment at ATI-EPI, Ramanthapur, from 4-05-2009 to15-05-2009.

Educational tours/visits

  • Mrs. V.R. Manjula  has accompanied students of III MPCs to TIFR on  29-9-2010 for the one day outreach programme at Balloon facility, Hyderabad.

  

*        Achievements of Faculty Members 

The faculty members of the Department have been actively taking part in redesigning of the syllabus and paper setting at the University level.

The staff of  the Department have  compiled Practical lab manuals for Electronics – Paper - I, Paper - II & Physics Paper – I, Paper – II for the benefit of the students.

Mr. G.S.V.R.K. Choudary

·         Completed his M. Phil. in Physics during 2005-06 and is currently pursuing his Ph.D from the Andhra University.

·         Attended A Second International Conference on Materials for future-2011(ICMF-2011) at Govt. Engg. College, Kozhikode from 23-2-11 to 25-2-11and presented a paper titled Effect Of Co/Cu Substitution On Magnetic Properties of Small Sized Ni-Zn ferrite System.

·         Attended an International conference on Nano Science and Technology ICONSAT – 2010 at IIT, Bombay from 17-2-2010 to 20-2-2010 and presented a poster on Anisotropic Considerations at critical crystallite size in Ni-Zn Ferrite Nano Particles. 

·         Has published a paper Cat-ion distribution of Titanium substituted Cobalt Ferrites in Journal of Alloys and Compounds Vol.488(2010)issue 1, L6-L9, 20-11-09.

·         Presented a paper Influence of pH value on crystallite and grain size in Ni-Zn nano ferrites  at International Conference on recent trends on Nano Science and Technology , Kolkata, 7-12-06 to 9-12-06.

Mrs. V. R. Manjula

·         Attended a UGC-SAP National Seminar on Recent Trends in Solid State Materials organised by Dept. of Physics, O.U on 26-2-10 and presented a poster on Simulation & Processing of defects in filament wound carbon fiber reinforced composite materials.

·         Presented an open first seminar lecture on 25-7-09 in the Dept., of Physics, OU as a Research Scholar.

·         Presented a paper titled Observation of defects in CFRP multilayered composites in the National Seminar on Recent trends in multinational oxide materials at Dept. of Physics, O.U., 17-7-09 to 18-7-09. 

Mrs. B. Niraimathi

·         Completed M.Tech. in Digital Systems & Computer Electronics from JNTUH, Hyderabad in Oct. 2009.

Ms. M. Prasanna has the following publications to her credit:
