Department of Physics & Electronics

Inception and Growth

The Department of Physics and Electronics was established at the inception of the college with three U.G courses (M.P.C., M.P.E., & M.P.Cs.,) and with an intake of  65 students and 3 faculty members. Currently the department has strength of about 350 students and 6 experienced faculty members. The Department has well equipped and furnished spacious laboratories. The laboratories have been relocated to the new I.T block and were inaugurated on 14th November 2005. The Department has three Physics laboratories spanning a total area 2024 Sqft. and the area of Electronics lab is 1056 Sqft. The electronics lab is also equipped with four Pentium computers for the simulation experiments prescribed by the O.U.

The faculty members of the Department have been actively taking part in redesigning of the syllabus and paper setting at the University level. Mr. GSVRK Choudhary got his M. Phil. degree in Physics during 2005-06 and is pursuing his Ph.D from the Andhra University.

Goals and Objectives

  • To create within the student an appreciation for the subject.
  • To improve knowledge.
  • To provide opportunities to apply the knowledge.
  • To develop analytical, mathematical and experimental skills.
  • To teach students to relate the concepts with applications.
  • To improve the university results.
  • To motivate students to pursue their higher studies in physics and electronics.

Student Results

A student of the first batch (1993 – 96) Satish Sreenivasan was awarded Gold Medal for Physics for securing the highest marks in the O.U. examinations. The overall results of the department have been over 95%. Students have been securing 100% marks in various theory papers of Physics and Electronics in the university examinations.

Departmental Activities

  • The Department has celebrated World Physics Day – “SPECTRA” on 24th, December 2005 to commemorate the 100th Birthday of Nobel Laureate Albert Einstein. Students have presented papers and posters on latest topics.
  • As a part of physical sciences day celebrations the department conducts inter collegiate competitions in paper presentation, poster presentation and other technical games.
